Protecting Yourself from Florida Road Rage Incidents

South Florida traffic can lead to frustration that can turn into road rage. This is a dangerous situation for drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users. You may be able to take legal action if you are involved in an accident or assaulted by a driver who is enraged.

Talk to an attorney from Jenkins Law, if you have been injured by a reckless driver. Our law firms will always offer a free consultation. There is no obligation to proceed.

    Understanding Road Rage

The term road rage is used to describe any aggressive behavior displayed by drivers as a response to stressors related to traffic. This can include:

    • Aggressive tailgating
    • The use of swearing and gestures
    • A verbal confrontation
    • Accidents that are intentionally caused
    • Driving aggressively, changing lanes quickly, and swerving around other cars
    • Entering the lane of another vehicle
      Speeding

The following are some of the most common causes of Florida road rage:

    • Traffic congestion. The congested roads of South Florida can make even the most patient drivers feel stressed and display aggressive behavior.
    • Irritation. Being impatient to get to a destination may lead to aggressive driving behavior such as tailgating or weaving in and around traffic.
    • Miscommunication. Drivers can interpret actions like failing to yield, as disrespectful and trigger aggressive responses.
    • Anonymity. Some drivers may feel anonymous while driving, and this can encourage them to be aggressive. They may believe they will not have to face a confrontation or any consequences.
    • Personal stressors. Drivers who are already stressed out by other things in their life can lose control of the vehicle.

What to Do If you’re injured in a Road Rage Incident in Florida?

Road rage can quickly escalate, resulting in physical altercations and property damage. It may even lead to serious injuries or deaths. When a driver becomes aggressive on the road, it’s best to avoid them and call the authorities. Never engage. This can lead to a situation spiraling out of control. This can have legal consequences such as criminal charges, fines and license suspension.

Prioritize your safety if you are injured by an aggressive motorist. Avoid engaging with the driver, keep a safe distance and notify law enforcement. As soon as possible, contact a Florida car accident claims lawyer. You might be entitled to compensation for damages such as medical costs, property damage, suffering and pain, or other losses. Protecting your rights is important. Compensation will not take away the trauma of a road-rage incident but it can provide you with counseling and other support while you heal.
